2008 Hyosung MS3-250 scooter 2,500 mile review
By C. Knight(Owner), Sep. 18, 2008
The Hyosung MS3-250 (2008) is presently in for its recommended 2,500 mile maintenance interval. I am glad to have found a dealer even closer to home than where I purchased it (an hour and 15 minutes instead of 2 hours is nice). So far i just put fuel in it, check tire pressures for appropriate task/
...loads and just use it as simple transportation.
I have been pleasantly suprized with the mileage (running 93 octane). The best was 76 MPG and the worst was 62 MPG. Around here its mostly just flat land with very few hills of any significance. For consistently getting the best mileage, the key is keeping the indicated rpm below 6,000, not jack rabbit off the starting line and not hammering brakes when you can slow to intersections using some engine braking etc. The worst mileage occurs when riding two up, bucking headwinds or when pushing the rpm upwards of 7,000 which is 80 MPH (indicated) but just 70 MPH as measured by my chase car.
The vehicle has good layout for storing stuff in the seat hatch including basic tool kit, cell phone, tire repair kit, helmet, gloves, as well as light rain boots & a rain suit (note you have to put some items inside the helmet to fit all this stuff under the seat).
As for long ride comfort, after an hour on it you will want to take on some fuel or stop just to rest your behind a few minutes. There is some vibration since it's only one cylinder but that is to be expected, and for anything less than 30 minutes on board its acceptable from my point of view. On hot days, the front windshield leaves just enough ventilation to keep a mesh safety jacket breathing well so you remain comfortable if moving at speed. I really like having the front end protection instead of just a naked bike because of bugs and road debris(including gravel flung from other vehicles). Strong gusty cross winds make for a bit of a precarious ride on such a light machine. You just need to be aware of your surroundings and not be caught off guard, anticipating it avoids a rude awakening.
During some very heavy rain storms it did a decent job of deflecting the water drops away from me when head on into the stuff. Yes you get wet, but its not "beating down on you", just rolling off the lexan and then "landing on the clothing". The helmet & knuckles do get beaned pretty good though. I've bought some mesh gloves since that day. In cross winds & rain you tend to tuck forward towards the windscreen. On light rain days you at least have the choice to move forward or endure the hassle of suiting up for the home commute, an easy choice for me on hot days.
So far the only nit pick is the plastic label piece that goes around the ignition key (labels indicating each key positon) which came loose and the plastic tabs broke off it. Today the service shop called me and said they did a warranty claim with Hyosung and they should just be mailing a new one to me that I can install without tools.
The brake squeal has finally gone away after allowing some use & time to wear in.
If your looking for a good scoot this is definitely one to consider, with fuel injection, liquid cooling, disc brakes all around, for the list price it is really a good machine for the money. I would not be comfortable going with anything less than this machine's 25 HP for the highway. It has just enough passing power for my needs and can hold its own at any posted speed limit i have encountered. It is simple and reliable so far and very functional, making the commute fun. Sometimes its the best thing to end a day at work.

battery problum
By ron roberts(Owner), Sep. 12, 2008
I bought a new ms3 250 in June and have put about 600 miles on it. The bike rides great but a little light for the two lane at 70mph it gets blown around a lot. other wise it runs fine. my only two gripes are once and a while the engine reves to 3000rpm and won't drop back. also Hyosung has a problu
...m with their batteries mine started not charging after 60 days and Hyosung claimes they only give a 30 day warenty on the batt. I talked to the dealer and he said they knew they were having a problum and 30% of the battery's were failing

MS3-250
By JAXCO(Owner), Sep. 12, 2008
I have owned this scooter for 1 month and have 985 miles on the bike. I weigh 350 lbs and get over 60 mpg driving interstate highway speeds. The scooter will attain a speed of speedometer indicated 90 mph on long stretches of level highway...although I would not reccommend driving at that speed for
...extended periods. I usually cruise between 65 and 80 depending on how far I am driving and traffic conditions. My mileage would improve if I drove slower.
Turns at speed are easy and inspire confidence. Pushing the handlebar in on the side you want to turn to makes for easy lane changes.
I have had no maintanance issues other than the odometer and trip meter alternate on the lcd display as I drive.
The oil filter for the Polaris Phoenix is exactly the same as the filter for the Hyosung MS3-250.

Hyosung MS3 250
By J. L. Smith(Owner), Aug. 30, 2008
I recently purchased a Hyosung MS3 250 for my wife. We live 56 miles from te dealership in which we purchased the scooter. I am a avid biker and I drove the bike back to our home. I was very
impressed with the comfortable ride.I
rate it a 5 of 5.The performance was
impressive. It had all the pow
...er to enter the interstate and keep up with
the speed limit. I rate that a 5 of 5.
The quality of the MS3 amazed me for
a Korean scooter.It has a great look
as well great quality of material in the body and the engine. I rate that
5 of 5 also. The Value of the MS3 250
was better than what I had look for
in the other scooters we shopped for.
That I would rate 5 f 5 also.
The overall rating of the MS3 250 was
higher than any of the other scooters
I had shopped for for a month. I would
rate the MS3 250 a 5 of 5 overall. The
scooter impressed me and I am a hard
critic.

For MS3/Xpeed 250i owners
By Mark Gross(Owner), Oct. 10, 2008
My review is somewhere above.
Some things that may help other owners.
Oil Filter from polaris fits this scooter part number 0452462 also part number 1550039A (same filter).
Also, if you ruin your oxygen sensor like I did...don't spend $220 for the factory part. the Bosch universal O2 sensor part
...number 15730 works just fine. color coded wires are exactly the same. Just requires simple splicing to original connectory from factory faulty sensor. Cost $50 and splicing wire.
Follow this link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CC4ZLCCZ for the service manual. Not the user manual...the actual service manual.
Hope this helps some owners out there.
