Great, Versatile Bike.......... for the money
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 01, 2020I bought my new 2018 Honda NC750X off the showroom floor in October of 2019. It was the last one the dealer had, but the price was unbeatable at less than $8000 CAD. I came off of bike cruisers and touring bikes (Goldwing, Valkyrie, VTX1800) so had no illusions about the power the little 750 would ... have. But that's not why I bought it. I wanted something that I could ride down a paved road, but if I saw an interesting dirt or gravel road, I could take it too. The NC doesn't disappoint. It's very capable in those circumstances (just turn off the traction control) and fun to ride. At about 55ish horsepower, you won't beat many bikes off the line, but it's enough to beat most cars across the intersection. After putting on 8,000 km I can say this: It's been very reliable and extremely fuel efficient. I generally get between 3.5 - 3.7 L/100 km, although I have gone as low as 2.9 L/100 km on one tank. That translates to 75 - 85 mpg. I changed out the windshield to get better wind protection for highway hauling. I also put on new tires (Shinko 705) to replace the OEM Dunlop 609's, which were pretty much done at about 6100 km (from looking at rider forums, that's about average for those tires). The Shinkos are a bit more off-road capable too, as they are described as a "70:30" tire. I put risers on the handlebars to get to a bit more upright seating position and that seems to have helped to cure the "uncomfortable seat" that many riders report. So far the bike has proven to be fun to ride, very versatile and capable and easy to like. It's not perfect, as I have had to make changes to improve comfort. And if you're looking for power, you should look somewhere else... but I quite enjoy it and would recommend it as a great alternative to a true "off road" ADV bike. You just have to know what you want the bike to do..... and what kind of riding you want to do with it.
