  • "Old Boy" come-back on the ultimate Sportsbike
By  (I am an Owner) on Nov 30, 2010

I am from UK and had my BMW S1000RR was delivered in July 2010. This was after months of research into alternative one litre SuperBikes, especially the Japanese contingent. I followed this up by and a test ride on both the Yamaha R1 and the BMW S1000RR.

I returned to motorcycling this ...

My immediate reaction, at the test ride (following an hour on the R1) was, here is a machine which is taylored to the individual by some brilliant engineering, intuitive styling and technology of a kind only dreamed about when I was a youngster. You feel 'at one' with the machine immediately and the confidence, if lacking previously, returned in abundance the moment I sat in the 'saddle'.

I toured France in August, riding some of the most beautiful roads in Europe, on a machine that simply loves to go. Town riding is a doddle too with this smooth, docile engine at low revs. Let it go on the open road and if you do not find it breathtaking in the extreme, then I'd be surprised.

Some questioned my motives when I said I was getting back into motorcycling after 40 years on a beautiful Four Cylinder SuperBike and especially following a BSA 350cc Single Cylinder Gold Star. I may have questioned my own sanity but just one ride on this dream of a machine is sufficient to confirm that this is the best thing I have made the right decision.

One reviewer has said that BMW underpriced this machine. I absolutely agree but I guess that once they have shifted everyone's attention, away from the Jap machines, the price will go up substantially. Value for money? Definitely!!

Snow is falling throughout the UK as I write but come the Spring I shall be out there again, having the most exhilerating motorcycling experience of my lifetime, on the open roads of Europe. I hope you'll join me.

  • Great Machine
By  (I am an Owner) on Nov 02, 2010

This is the best Sports bike ever.I have owned gixxers including the fabulous K5 but this Bimmer does it all. Mindblowing top-end never ceases to amaze. Lovely turn-in and the best brakes in the business. In the wet - just press the button for rain and you get beaut throttle control and very gradual ...

Its also nice to know that ABS and Traction Control is there in the background to keep you that bit safer.

Don't tell BMW but I think it is worth at least another $5k.

  • Was impressed... until
By  (I am an Owner) on Sep 16, 2010

Got it a month back and was very impressed with the top end power. The lack of low and mid-range bothered me a bit but the thing that broke the deal was me was a week ago when the motor blew a rod.

Engine is wrecked and the local BMW dealer is side stepping on the warranty bit.

    ...

In retrospect, Shouldve gotten the K9 gsxr1000. Better low and midrange and a hellacious top end. And doesnt throw its rods mid ride.
