Quick but hot
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 06, 2015The BMW F800 GT is a follow on from the BMW F800 ST. Both bikes have a similar issue with heat management. When days get above 80 degrees, the frame of the bike, which is parallel the the riders inside upper leg gets above 140 degrees. At this frame temperature the bike is known to provide the ... rider with first and second degree burns. According to BMWNA product management this high temperature is per the bike's specification. This bike is a case of buyer beware.

Good but need more upgrades to be great
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 13, 2015I bought my f800gt brand new in 2013. As a new rider the f800gt was pretty much all the bike I needed. Even now I still enjoy riding it. With all the good things I could say about it the handling, the brakes, the look of the bike are all great. The big problem with this bike is that for the money ... and just in general it is under powered.I have no idea why BMW would take the time to redesign this bike with all they did to it and not boost it up to at least 100 hp bike. From what I can see it isn't going to be long before Bmw is going to have to go back to the drawing board and redesign the motor if they want it to be more popular in the states or just not sell it here. Since I have owned mine everyone that I have seen at the dealership that has looked at one liked it until they found out it was only a parallel twin. I heard someone tell one of the salesman at the dealership that when a bike looks like this people want the power to go along with the looks. And with nothing else in their sport touring line Between the f800gt and k1300s why would BMW not close the gap between the two and open the door to a new market. Honda proved it with the vfr 800 series that a mid range sport touring motorcycle with some pep can be really popular and a good seller. And if I'm not mistaken the motor in the f800gt is actually the biggest between the two. The vrf's sales are better because it has more power, there are upgrades that can be done to the vrf vs absolutely nothing to the f800gt. I'm planning on getting a second bike in a month or two. I have asked the BMW dealership about me trading mine in and they told they would rather me try to sell mine rather then trade because they can't sell the f800gt's that they have in stock now. I have seen 2 used k1300's and 3 vrf800's sell in the time it took to sell 1 f800gt out of the dealership where I got mine. The vrf's sold pretty quickly after they were serviced and put on the sales floor. Even though I really like the f800gt for Everything it is supposed to be but for the money and for its untapped potential it's just not what it could be. And the poor sales at.least here reflect that.
