Awesome performer / horrible dealer network
By (I am an Owner) on Mar 03, 2012I bought a new 2009 with Leo vince exaust and differant clutch springs with contra spring already installed. This little 50cc has BALLS! Im 190 and it was setup perfectly for my weight Easily reached 50 mph. Handling is great and my fuel economy was always 120mpg. I had it derestricted (ecu and Variator ... ring)by a dealer but the assholes literally argued with me saying it wouldnt do anything, Which it did. They did not want to do it but I told them to anyway. Like others say about the fuel pump, Mine failed to and its because the connection inside loses contact.Wiggle your wires at the pump and it will prime for you but only run a few seconds. A design flaw which can be fixed but Aprilia needs to recall this. With A horrible dealer network and dealers with no Knowledge to help you I would stay away from it. also it took 2 whole months for my fuel pump but It was winter so I didnt care. With all this I have to say Its an awesome performer with reliability issues and if its summer and you need a part to get it running again, kiss your riding season goodbye. Hello yamaha

Sputtering problem
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 19, 2011I bought my 2009 Aprilia SR50 at motoworks in Chicago, I hate this scooter, when it warms up it sputters so badly I'm afraid I will get rear ended on this piece of junk. The biggest mistake I have EVER made. The dealer hasn't got a clue why it sputters and I'm tired of this shit!

Be weary of this bike
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 15, 2009I bought mine just a few months back in July of 2009. I got two weeks of enjoyment, when it broke down on me and needed to be towed back to the dealership for a new fuel pump. It was replaced, but it took about a month to get the bike back. And, when I did get it back, it broke down again on me ... for the same problem. Moral of the story is, be weary before buying into this bike as it is not all it is cracked up to be.

I'm in two stroke heaven!
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 22, 2009I bought this scooter because it was street legal without a motorcycle certification in my state, yet it had enough pep to keep up with all the traffic on my seven mile commute. I'm getting about 97 mpg and a top speed of about 46 mph with my 185 lb frame. (The speedometer reads higher, but ... like most scooters it reads a bit optomistic.)
The only trouble I had reliability wise was a loose ground wire to the starter at about 1,000 miles that was readily fixed by a trusted mechanic at a nearby motorcycle repair shop. I'm now at 2,800 miles and the engine is as smooth as butter and the scoot is nimble and alot of fun to ride.
This is a perfect scooter for a new rider since it is about the fastest 50 cc scoot you can buy and it is about the only 50 cc scoot with dual disc brakes. The small engine displacement keeps you from getting into too much touble at wide open throttle and the brakes are incredable.

By (I am an Owner) on Sep 19, 2009i bought my scooter 2month ago. drive about 420mile and engine was stop on the middle of street. i brought to dealershop and mechanic told me "need to change fuel pump" and there is two more sr50r factory waiting for new fuel pump... also mechanic told me "when you get new fuel pump, may be it happen ... again because it's all same design"
he ordered new pump from aprilia company and it take about 5 to 7days
one good news is it cover by warranty

Think twice before you spend 3000+
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 22, 2009I bought this scooter in May of 2009. The scoot has the look, and many amenities, but you should be weary when purchasing. Since my purchase I've rode the scooter a total of 6 times. Other than that, it's been at the dealership for what can be described as a "sputtering problem" that keeps the scooter ... from smoothly accelerating from a stop. It just dies out off the line. Also, the scooter has needed a new fuel pump, and currently keeps fowling spark plugs. If you research known issues with this scooter on any of the popular forums, you'll find many people with the same issue, and here's the kicker: the repairs that tend to fix the issue aren't covered by the manufacturers warranty. So I would only buy from a reliable Aprilia dealership that has experience with the model. Other than that, I can't say this scooter is particularly great. The seat height is outrageous, the under-seat storage is small, the plastic panels are sensitive to sunlight, and they have are notorious for having bad fuel pumps. In the best of my 6 rides, this scooter was hardly the "racing machine" it's made out to be. Just about the only note worthy aspect of this scooter is its handling - which is fair at best. You may be swayed by top speeds of 45-50 mph on a 50cc scooter, but that is only on flat ground in the best of conditions. If you want power go 150cc. Furthermore, $3559 is a large sum of money to risk on a plastic, unreliable scooter. Good luck, explore your options.

Fun little sporty machine!
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 17, 2009I traded a 2003 R6 sportbike(21,700 miles) for my 2009 SR 50r staight up. It came with a Leo vince exaust and clutch kit. It will reach 70km,(Dont know what that is in mph) so far, but I am not at full throttle for I am still in the break-in period. This thing corners very well and pick-up is descent ... for a 50cc scooter.Breaks give good feed back. The seat is comfy but could be alittle better.Ergos are nice. Storage is great for a sport scooter. Eventually I may want more power because it does slow a bit on hilly ground, but for scootin around town, it is fun, reliable and economical transportation.I am 5'9 and 190 lbs
