MotoGP rider backs French charity
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, May. 15, 2008
MotoGP rider Chris Vermeulen is supporting a charity that helps handicapped bikers get back on the road.

France-based Handicaps Motards Solidarité, whose motto is because the biker spirit is stronger than the handicap, helps handicapped bikers pass or renew their motorcycle licenses by converting motorcycles and sidecars to allow them to ride.

Alstare Suzuki rider Chris Vermeulen checks out a GSX-R1000 equipped with a side car designed for paraplegics.
Modifications, which are customized to a riders needs, may include foot throttles, hand gearboxes or thumb brakes.

Im glad to bring my support to this association which helps bikers to keep a link with their passion after a drama, but also shows to other people handicapped or not, life doesnt stop after a disease or an accident, says Vermeulen, who races for Rizla Suzuki. Its the first time Ive seen this kind of association. I met the president of the association and also a member who just received his GSX-R1000 equipped with a sidecar. It was amazing.

Established in 1995, Handicaps Motards Solidarité has 500 members.
