Tom Cruise To Receive First Desmo RR in U.S.

By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Feb. 01, 2008
According to the Associated Press, Tom Cruise is scheduled to take delivery of the first Ducati Desmosedici RR to hit U.S. shores later this week.

The Desmosedici RR is essentially a turn key MotoGP replica racer from Ducati that carries much of the technology used on Ducati's Desmosedici GP6 ridden by Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau in the 2006 MotoGP season.

Loaded with ultra-premium components, the RR claims 200 hp at 13,800 rpm and 85.55 lb-ft of torque at 10,500 rpm. Production on the bike limited to 1,500 units worldwide began in October, 2007 with first deliveries going to 999R owners who placed their orders before September 30, 2006.

Ol' Tom will get the first Desmosedici RR to hit U.S. shores later this week. Perhaps he'll start Team TomKat?

Outstanding orders will be completed by December, 2008 according to Ducati. So, will the headline-dominating actor be given this greatest of Ducatis like so many Oscar night gift baskets? Nope. Apparently Cruise will be shelling out a premium of $72,500 for the bike. Nice to know he's down-to-earth in some respects.
