Munich, Germany: BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke), the German automotive group, has announced record figures for its motorcycles division for 2003, for a tenth consecutive year, and reports that it is now Europe's largest motorcycle manufacturer. According to management, global sales volume is reported to have risen by 9.3 per cent to roughly 92,600 units in a year-on-year comparison, while turnover rose by 6.7 per cent to 1.13B euros.
A total of 26,355 motorcycles with Boxer engines were sold on the German market, while 13,500 were sold in the US. These represented the main markets for motorcycles of this category. The company has also reported demand on the Spanish and Italian markets for the its R 1150 RT and R 1150 GS models.
