2002 Superbike World Championship Round 10, Brands Hatch, GB; Friday 25th July:

TEAM ALSTARE SUZUKI Corona Extra rider Gregorio Lavilla put in a grittyperformance to post the 11th quickest time of the day at a hot and sunny Brands Hatch.

Lavilla is still suffering from injuries sustainedat Laguna Seca less than two weeks ago and was unable to push at 100 percent intoday's two sessions, so his 11th place is more than creditable. Provisional pole today was set by runaway series leader Troy Bayliss. Hislap of 1:26.398 was nearly half a second inside the official lap record, set by America Ben Bostrom (Ducati) in 2001. Second fastest today is Colin Edwards (Honda), with Ruben Xaus (Ducati) third and Neil Hodgson (Ducati)fourth.

GREGORIO LAVILLA- 11th, 1:27.510:
"It was hard work out there today and because of my injuries I was not able to ride hard for more then about two or three laps at a time. The worst thing was that I was not able to move around the bike like I normally wouldand that prevented me going faster. But the good news is that I can ride! Today we started off with the bike like we had at Laguna, but it didn't feel right so we changed the settings to what we running at Misano. I am lucky that my injuries are on my left side, because at Brands there are only three left turns, so my injuries are not getting any worse. I hope I can ride a bit harder tomorrow and then be in better shape for Sunday."

PROVISIONAL POLE FOR CHAMBON! FUJI 6TH======================================
2002 Supersport World Championship, Round 9, Brands Hatch, GB; Friday 25th July:

TEAM ALSTARE SUZUKI Corona Extra rider Stephane Chambon likes Brands Hatch and it shows! The Frenchman blasted his way round the 4.221 km (2.64 mile) Kent circuit in a timeof 1:29.473, well inside the current lap record - to take provisional pole position. Before the event, Chambon had said that the crucial part of the season was being reached and Brandsis where the title could be lost or won. His performance in qualifying today shows he means business. His team mate Katsuaki Fujiwara ended the day sixth fastest, but is confident that he will be higher placedtomorrow after his Alstare Suzuki's gearbox has been changed. Both he and Chambon felt that the gearing wasn't quite right for the Brands Hatch circuit and will make changes before tomorrow's qualifying.

STEPHANE CHAMBON- 1st, 1:29.473:
"I'm very happy to be on provisional pole, especially as my bike isn't quite right yet. Our gearing wasn't right for this track, so we'll change it for tomorrow and then hopefully go even quicker. I like this track. It's hardand always makes for very competitive racing, but that's the fun! I tried a new rear Dunlop tire and I'm pleased with the way it behaved, so maybe we'll use it in the race. I want to keep pole tomorrow and then get a goodstart on Sunday and leave the rest to fight each other. But, normally this place sees five or six riders in contention all the way to the flag, sowe'll have to see what happens. I'm going all out for a win for sure."

KATSUAKI FUJIWARA- 6th, 1:30.216:
"I'm happy enough with how things went today because I know I can go quite a bit faster tomorrow. The gearing wasn't correct today and that slowed me a little. Also, right at the end of timed qualifying when I was on a hot lap, there were lots of yellow flags being waved, so I had to ease the pace a little. I like this track a lot, even though it is a hard track. It's funto ride and I enjoy it a lot. Tomorrow, I want to be on the front row (preferably on pole), make a good start and then race to victory. I thinkthis place would be a track for me to get a win."

Friday qualifying:

1 Chambon (F-Suzuki)2 Cogan (F-Honda)3 Casoli (I-Yamaha)4 Foret (F-Honda)5 Whitham (GB-Yamaha)6 Fujiwara (J-Suzuki)7 MacPherson (GB-Honda)8 Pitt (AUS-Kawasaki)9 Cruciani (I-Yamaha)10 Vermeulen (AUS-Honda)
