(Photo by Larry Lawrence)Following in the Boy Scout motto of "Be Prepared", Smith is keeping his racing skills honed by competing in WERA National Endurance and Suzuki contingency races.

Saturday in the WERA national at Putnam Park in Mt. Meridian, Ind., Smith put Team Xtreme up front early in a four-hour endurance race. The team later experience mechanical problems on their Suzuki and retired from the race. Vesrah Racing wont he race on a GSXR1000.

"I'm having a ball out here," Smith said. "It's keeping me sharp and it's fun getting back to my roots. I'm ready to go should one of the Superbike teams need me. I just got a few new Suzukis to race in contingency races. They're still stock right now, so I'm way down on power."

Smith raced won several WERA titles before starting his AMA Superbike career.
