Even though it was Kawasaki's Ricky Carmichael who finished the day on top, a number of people on hand felt it was Universal Studios / Honda Racing's Sebastien Tortelli who was the fastest250cc man of the day, though the day's results did not reflect this fact. Theyoung Frenchman, who suffered two early crashes in moto one, fought his wayfromdead last to finish in 5th place. The only other rider who posed a serious threat to Ricky all day was Yamaha's Tim Ferry who won the first moto, though a front brake problem forced the Yamaha rider to the pits while running third in the second moto.

In moto two, Tortelli and current motocross pointsleader Ricky Carmichael battled tooth and nail until Tortelli came out thevictor. Tortelli went on to finish 2nd for the day behind Carmichael with a 5/1overall score...

The victory made Ricky Carmichael the winningest outdoor rider in AMA history, bringing his total to 38 wins. Bob "Hurricane" Hannah previously held the record.

"I really like this track a lot. Unfortunately I had some bad luck in moto 1,but moto 2 made up for it. I really want to thank my team for giving me such agood bike out there," said a contented Tortelli.

Ryan "Ryno" Hughes rode his Honda CRF450R to a hard fought 5th place finish forthe day. Hughes, who has been training with 6-time AMA motocross champion JeffStanton, credited his improved conditioning for the finish. "It's awesometraining with Stanton. The guy really enjoys seeing me succeed which fuels metopush even harder," said Hughes.
