Do you smell that? Among the smoke of recent technical problems and updates (amazing how those two are never mutually exclusive) we managed to get hold of all bikes and riders necessary to put together the second part of the Year 2001 World Supersport Shootout.

We finally got last year's winner (the Kawasaki ZX-6R) together with this year's earlier winner (Yamaha's R6) and the new kid in town (Triumph's TT600) long enough to become familiar with just about every aspect of each machine...

As you readers made clear through numerous polls and e-mails, there was a definate street emphasis for this one, so all of the testing was done there. The racier bikes featured in our earlier World Supersport Shootout made it to the track for evaluation, whereas all the testing for these bikes was done on the street -- very twisty bits of street, in fact. Lots of it, too.

We rode them many miles in many conditions (everything from frigid rains to 100-plus degree heat and everything in between) on a myriad surfaces with a number of different riders on board. So now we will give you a brief glimpse of what is just around the corner in part two of our Year 2001 World Supersport Shootout.

So, stay tuned -- there's much more to come!
