Edwards and Okada on Misano

Castrol Honda's World Superbike riders Colin Edwards and Tady Okada bothunofficially broke the lap record during the final day of a two-day test atthe Misano circuit in Italy on Wednesday.

Okada, on his first visit to the Adriatic coastal circuit for eight years,was 0.3s inside the lap record, set by Troy Corser in June last year. Worldchampion Edwards was 0.02s faster and the VTR-mounted pair believe they bothmade a lot of progress during the two days...

Okada was 1.5 seconds faster than his best lap of Tuesday and Edwardsimproved by one second.

Okada said: "We needed a test like this and it's worked perfect. The weatherwas kind to us and we were able to put in some good lap times and test somenew Michelin tires. It's all been worthwhile and I look forward to comingback here for the race next month."

Edwards commented: "This has probably been my best test of the year. We wereable to drastically change the machine set-up and we certainly found a gooddirection as far as that is concerned. It's put the whole team in a goodmood for next week's sixth round of the championship at Donington Park."

Castrol Honda's World Supersport rider Chris Vermeulen was 1.1 secondsfaster on Wednesday than his best time on Tuesday. The 18-year-old missedout on beating the lap record by just 0.4s.

Vermeulen commented: "We continued today where we finished on Tuesday andit¹s been a very successful test. After a tough start to the season I reallyfeel I¹m back on track and I can't wait to get to Donington Park next week."

Round eight of the World Superbike championship and round seven of the WorldSupersport championship will be staged at the Misano circuit on June 24.
