Kyalami, a word meaning "my home" in the Zulu language, has been the center of South African motorsports since itopened in 1961. In January the Kyalami circuit was the venue for the official SBK wintertests and the Ducati Corse teams came away from those tests withpositive results despite the torrid heat at the time on the SouthAfrican plateau.

On the penultimate day of testing Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada) set anew circuit lap record in 1:41.904, a time that was improved the nextday by another Ducati rider, Neil Hodgson (Ducati GSE) whose 1:41.477confirmed Ducati's supremacy in the three-day test...

Excellent results were also achieved by Ben Bostrom (Ducati L&M)."Captain America" responded to his team-mate's times with a gradualimprovement and ended up with fourth-quickest time of the tests in1:42.290.

Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada) was also on good form, despite feelingthe effects of a neck injury during private testing and the Spanish SBKrookie improved his best time day after day, ending up seventh-quickest.

Round 2 of the WSBK championship gets underway with high expectationsfor Ducati, especially after the excellent results achieved three weeksago in the season-opening round in Spain, where the 996R Factory bikespicked up two second places with Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada) and aspectacular third place for Ben Bostrom (Ducati L&M).
