Weekend Madness on Ortega Highway

For the most part, motorcycle riders are good people. But, just like with every other group, a few bad people spoil everything.

We've received a number of e-mails from Southern California riders who mentioned getting pulled over and questioned repeatedly by CHP officers on Ortega Highway (a nice twisty road that runs between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore) after the beating of an officer earlier in the day by two motorcyclists.

Please read the following, and notify us if you have any information about the suspects...

The officer was reportedly hit in the head with a blunt object on Sunday after pulling over the motorcyclists. The officer was listed in fair condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, California.

According to reports from local station KABC, "(the officer) was talking on the radio, and dispatchers heard him say something like, 'Sit down.' Then, they lost all radio contact," Sheriff Lt. Colin Murphy said.

By the time the back-up officers were dispatched and found the injured officer, the bikers had fled.
