This was a particularly bad Daytona for many people. The death of Pro Thunder racer Dirk Piz was the darkest moment.

We just got word that Scott is awake this morning after needing to replace five pints of blood lost in surgery. He shattered bones in his arm so badly that surgeons had to remove a section of bone and replace it with a metal one...
Scott russell is still in intensive care and it looks like this will be a long recovery.
