Riding Through the Himalayas

I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to ride a motorcycle through the Himalayas and on top of the Tibetan Plateau. Okay, well maybe not. But it would be an exhilarating rush, and now we have two opporunites to do it.

Thunder in the Mountains is a 12-day expedition into the high altitudes of Himachal Pradesh in North India, and will be taking place Aug.31-Sept.12.

Also, Raid de Himalaya, organized by The Himalayan Motor sport Association, is an international competition run in the "raid format." It is the longest, toughest and biggest motor sport event in India...

Raid de Himalaya also takes place in Himachal Pradesh, and riders get to ride on the highest motorable road in the world as one of the competitive stages, as well as other parts of the Tibetan plateau. The "raid" takes place Sept.30-Oct.6.

This year will be the third running of Raid de Himalaya, and both 4-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles are encouraged to participate. There will be several different classes that can be entered with motorcycles.

Group A/B: Indian and Non-Indian machines modified up to 750ccGroup C: Indian machines modified with Indian componentsGroup D: Standard Indian machine. Initially, they can provide a standard Enfield 500cc machine andsupply parts to modify it. All bikes provided will be prepared and maintained before each stage.
