Pre-Season Test at Kyalami

Castrol Honda¹s World Superbike champion Colin Edwards set the fastest timeon the opening day of the official pre-season test session at Kyalami, SouthAfrica on Monday.

Edwards powered the VTR twin-cylinder machine around the 2.64-mile tracknear Johannesburg in a time of 1:42.693 - equalling his best lap from theKyalami round last April...

"I'm happy with the time," said Edwards who was 0.6 inside the Kyalami laprecord. "I went out at the end of the day to try out a new MichelinSuperpole tire and it worked well. I've got a few more tires to try onTuesday morning but after four days here last week for the Michelin test I'mready to move on to another track now."

Second fastest was Ducati's Troy Bayliss, the Australian rider recording a1:43.159 in the Monday morning session. Edwards' Castrol Honda team-mateTady Okada was third fastest and happy with his display aboard the 1000ccmachine.

"I had a lot of tires to try today and we made some more adjustments to themachine," said Okada. "I've still to try some Superpole tires and a new racetire on Tuesday morning."

Suzuki¹s Pier-Francesco Chili took the fourth best time with British Ducatirider Neil Hodgson fifth on his return to World Superbike action after twoyears on the British Superbike championship.

American Ben Bostrom escaped injury in a fall on Monday afternoon andbounced back to record the sixth fastest time on the first day of thefour-day session.
