This by the University of Michigan. One statistic that can be gleaned is that your chances of surviving a crash are 97% if you wear a helmet and 95% if you don't. So by extrapolation your chances of getting killed if you don't wear a helmet increase by 66%.

The main point of the study however is that the number of fatal crashes for people over 45 quadrupled from 2001 to 2005, while the number of crashes decreased for younger folks.
