Unstable At Any Speed?

I'm shopping for a sport touring bike that can also handle two-up weekends. The ST1300, FJR1300 & R1200RT are the top contenders. Both of the Japanese dealerships say that adding a top box and passenger to their bikes will make them "unstable" at highway speed and that I should go with a Goldwing or Venture tour rig. This doesn't make sense to me given the physical size of the bikes, especially with Mr. BMW saying "no worries, load it up". I prefer (can afford) the Japanese bikes but don't want to get the wrong one for my needs. Are the dealers just trying to up-sell me? Any ST or FJR owners who can comment on 2-up rides?
