One afternoon I was cruising one of my favorite twisty two-lane backroads at about 60 mph when suddenly I was buzzed by an F15 Eagle about 50 feet off the deck -- or at least that's what it sounded like. Actually, it was a Ferrari 512 BB blasting past me in a curve at somewhere far north of 100 mph. That flat-12 was in full high-rpm shriek, and it nearly startled me off the road. The word thrilling comes to mind. Few sounds are as stirring as an exotic 12-cylinder in full song (except maybe a fighter jet, and that's mainly just loud, not stirring). I wish there were more-exotic multi-cylinder motorcycle engines than are currently available. If you've heard one inline-4, you've heard them all. It would be nice to hear a V12, V8, or even V6 snarling down the road on two wheels. A Valkyrie flat-6 with aftermarket pipes sounds pretty damn sick (like a smaller 911), so just imagine what a small, high-winding V8, V10, or V12 would sound like. There's no compelling engineering reason for 6, 8, 10, or 12 cylinders, but there's no sensible reason for a lot of really cool things. So **** sensible; I wanna hear some rasty, sick, insane, exotic motors on two wheels. Anybody else feel this way?
