Buell Thunderbolt Questions.

Hello,
I want to pick up A buell thunderbolt.
Thinking about a S3T.
Does anyone know what years had the good engine? (Thunderhead?)
I know that through out the years of manufacturing they put some stock 1200 sportster engines in them.
I called a couple of dealers to ask but they didn't seem to willing to help since I wasn't going to buy a bike from them. ( I would, but they had none to buy)
Any help on this would really be nice.
