Love Ride 17 a Success

More than 25,000 bikers on Sunday raised a little hell and a lot of money.

The 17th-annual Love Ride, held at Castaic Lake in Glendale, California, easily topped its 1999 mark of $1.3 million. Proceeds will benefit the Reading by 9 literacy charity and the Muscular Dystrophy Association...

The group of festive, predominantly Harley-Davidson-mounted riders ate barbecue, basked in the sun, visited vendor booths and grooved to the tunes of Credence Clearwater Revisited and John Kay's Steppenwolf.

The only hitch in the entire event was a delayed flight which prevented Blood Sweat and Tears from making its 2 p.m. performance.

All things considered, organizers couldn't have been happier with the festival.

"The participants are what make the Love Ride successful," event spokesperson Annet Peairs said. "The motorcycle community as a whole enjoy riding and especially riding for a good cause."

In seventeen years, the Love Ride has raised over $12 million for charity. Motorcycle Online will post official Love Ride 17 statistics as they become available.
