SV and Seca Info?

Hey MO-Land, I am currently looking at 2 used bikes that I may by for my second bike.

Bike 1:
2004 SV650 with just over 6000 miles on it for $2500

Bike 2:
A 1996 Yamaha Seca XJ600 with 3600 miles for $1400

The SV seems to be a rather good price in comparison to what I’ve seen out there (if I can ever actually get a hold of the seller). Usually I’ve seen them between $3700-5500 for this year and up. (you might have seen a different price, but that is what I’ve come across).

The Seca seems interesting for the low price and low miles. I haven’t taken a look at it yet, but the photos I’ve seen the bike looks very clean.

I really would like the SV, but I still haven’t heard back from the seller, yet. So, my question is does anyone out there know of anything on the ’96 Seca? Any owners, past or present out there? Is it a fun ride? Should I look for anything specific when I look at the bike? Any mechanical problems that have been known to trouble Secas?

And as far as the SV goes, is $2500 suspiciously low? A previous MOer mentioned to look for a transmission problem going from 2nd down to 1st. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

So, I’m hoping the SV seller gets in touch with me. The Seca looks clean, but I don’t know if it’s what I want (haven’t seen it in person, yet). Any info, biased opinions and general gripes are welcomed!

Riding note: Most of my riding (when it stops freakin’ snowing) is on winding, narrow, two lane, back roads.

Happy Festivus!
