Help -- good bike for bad back?

By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Feb. 10, 2004
I've been off bikes for three years, due to lower-back trouble and subsequent surgery and rehab. Now I'm thinking about trying to get into riding again, and could use some feedback from other people who've been in a similar circumstance....

A light/middleweight sportbike or sport-standard would have the position I need (I used to do triathlons, and can still cycle a little, so I know the sporty posture takes some weight off the lumbar vertebrae), but I've owned both, and they tend to be pretty stiffly sprung, which isn't helpful (and I only weigh 130 lbs.). Another possibility might be a d.p. or supermoto; swapping bars for a superbike bend might lean me forward enough to unweight the spine, and the suspension would be softer.

Ideas?
