What's the real reason it's so difficult to get test rides in the US?

If you’re tempted by the new Yamaha, 95% of UK dealers will have demo bikes available from Wednesday October 1.
Apparently Yamaha is selling all the bikes it cares to sell here in the US. Is there another reason why 95% of effing dealers in the UK have a demo fleet, but here in the US we're supposed to purchase bikes without testing them?
I know there are motorcycle dealers who subcribe to MO. How about you guys come clean? How come 95% of dealers in the UK have demo bikes, but no dealers in the US (that I've ever heard of) do?
