Honda launches Canadian racing series
The Honda CBR125R Challenge will be run by Honda Canada with the support of Professional Motorsports Productions, the organizers of the Parts Canada Superbike series.
Intended as a starter class for young road racers, the CBR125 Challenge is open to competitors between the ages of 14 and 22 as of Jan. 1, 2008.
Honda Canadas goal is to provide a safe environment that will give new and existing enthusiasts who have thought about racing, both the means and opportunity to do so, says Honda Canadas Kim Moore.
This series will act as a stepping stone into other racing classes, says Colin Fraser, president of PMP. It provides racers with an inexpensive way to learn road racing. These are easy bikes to ride and learn on, and this sort of development class is very successful in Europe.
Competitors will race on near-stock CBR125R bikes equipped with catalytic converters and with engine performance restricted. An official Parts Canada Superbike Championship Dynojet dyno will be used to regulate performance levels. All motorcycles will be using Pirelli spec tires. Racers may use a race conversion kit from participating Honda dealers that includes an Elka shock, Mimic bodywork, an Arrow bolt-on exhaust canister and Z-1 frame sliders.
The CBR125R Challenge will run at select Parts Canada Superbike Championship rounds and other Canadian series events. A full schedule will be available at http://www.honda.ca/ and http://www.cdnsuperbike.com/.
