Dungey Donates Gear for Japan
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider is pledging his Fox race gear worn during the March 19 round in Jacksonville, Fla., for an auction benefiting the Japanese Red Cross’ earthquake disaster fund.
“We’re all very appreciative of how Japan has supported us in this industry and racing. I feel like it’s our job to do anything that we can do to help them in this time of need and help return the favor,” says Dungey. “It’s going to take a lot for them to rebuild and get back to normal. I just want them to know that we’re here for them and they are in our thoughts and prayers.”
Dungey wore a special set of riding gear in Jacksonville with the Japanese symbols “Kiboh”, which means “Hope”, and the red and white colors of Japan’s Rising Sun flag.
The jersey and pants will be sold in a charity auction at the 2011 season-opening round of the All Japan Motocross Championship round in Hiroshima, Japan, on May 15.
Japan continues to experience aftershocks and tsunamis since the magnitude 9.0 earthquake on March 11. The most recent was a magnitude 7.1 earthquake on April 7.
