Chris Clark of Las Vegas, Nev. was presented the Horizon Award at the AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships Sept 19-21 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Clark earned the Horizon Award, given to the amateur racer who demonstrates the most promise for a professional career, by winning the Expert Unlimited Superbike and Expert Unlimited Grand Prix classes. He also finished second in the Expert Middleweight Superbike, Expert Middleweight Grand Prix and Expert Middleweight Supersport classes, and earned third-place finishes in the Expert Heavyweight Superbike and Expert Heavyweight Supersport classes.

A regular competitor in WERA-sanctioned events, Clark rode a Suzuki GSX-1000 in his two unlimited class victories and a Yamaha R6 in the other five races.

Clark joins a distinguished group of Horizon Award winners which includes AMA racers Jason DiSalvo, Blake Young and Superbike Champion Ben Spies.

Also receiving special recognition was Clint Shobert from Wolfforth, Tex., who won the AMA Sports Top Rookie Award. Shobert, the son of three-time AMA Grand National Champion and 1988 AMA Superbike Champion Bubba Shobert, won the Amateur Heavyweight Superbike, Amateur Middleweight Supersport and Amateur Heavyweight Supersport classes. Shobert followed in his Motorcycle Hall of Fame fathers racing line, riding a Honda.

Clark and Shobert were also awarded Arai helmets autographed by AMA Superbike racers.

Its no small feat riding a motorcycle the quickest around a road-race course, especially against some of the countrys most-talented amateur competitors, says Anthony Grilli, AMA Sports national technical manager. The AMA thanks CCS for its hard work to make this event a success and congratulates all of the racers and families who made the trek to the 2008 AMA Sports Road Race Grand Championships and helped make this a memorable weekend for all involved. Clearly, the future is bright for amateur road racing in America.
