Aprilia expands scooter offerings

Scarabeo line to add two new models
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 25, 2008
Aprilia is introducing two new models to its Scarabeo line of scooters.

Already recognized as being one of the lightest scooters in its class, the Scarabeo 500 will see two smaller iterations in 2008, at 100cc and at 200cc, providing more options for the new rider.

The Scarabeo 200 uses an advanced single cylinder four-stroke engine. Aprilia engineers have optimized the valve timing using the same methods used for the companys high performance racing engines to provide 19 hp at 8250 rpm with 12.5 lb./ft of torque at 7500 rpm.

The front wheel features a 260 mm disc brake and a floating caliper with three parallel pistons. The rear wheel uses a 220 mm disc brake with two piston calipers. Both wheels are linked by a new integral braking system to provide responsive braking.

The Scarabeo 200 is available in either blue or red at a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$3,599.

The Scarabeo 100 featrues a new tail light assembly using high-visibility light emitting diodes. The headlight is also new, shaped to improve aerodynamics.

A high-strength tubular steel reinforced frame provides extra stability, while a combination front hydraulic fork with 80 mm of travel and a rear hydraulic monoshock suspension with 82 mm of travel provide agility and stability.

The front brake uses a 220 mm disc and a caliper with two opposed pistons. The rear brake is a 140 mm drum.

The Scarabeo 100 comes in either green or red at a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$2,699.

The Scarabeo 500 i.e. provides a higher level of performance than the two new models. It features one of the best power to weight ratios in its market for excellent acceleration and control.

There is plenty of storage space in the under-seat area, as well as an additional compartment in the back of the leg guard. A lockable top box can be added as an option to the standard luggage rack. And, in an industry first, the Scarabeo 500 i.e. comes standard with an electronic anti-theft system.

The Scarabeo 500 i.e. is available in blue or in red at a suggested price of US$6,299.
