BMW Motorrad is offering an anti-lock braking system option for the new HP2 Megamoto.

Available as a factory-installed option, the ABS system comes at a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$1,000. As with the HP2 Sport, riders have the option of deactivating an installed ABS system for racing.

BMW pioneered the use of anti-lock brakes on motorcycles with the 1988 K100 (Mark II).

The HP2 Megamoto is a street version of the HP2 Enduro. It is equipped with a 113 hp Boxer motor producing 85 lb/ft of torque. It features inverted Marzocchi forks, Öhlins rear shock and an Akrapovic exhaust. The HP2 Megamoto uses a 12.6-inch dual hydraulic disc for the front brake and a 10.4-inch hydraulic disc for the rear from Bremo.

The HP2 Megamoto is part of BMW's High Performance line also featuring the HP2 Enduro and the HP2 Sport.

The 2008 HP2 Megamoto retails for $20,520.
