"A Day in the Dirt" Brings Hollywood and MX Together

The weekend following Thanksgiving Day 2007, is "A Day in the Dirt" weekend at Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR), located near Palmdale, CA. Started in 1998, this event brings just about any one from the entertainment industry together with motocross stars o'plenty for a weekend of friendly, but fierce competition. "A Day in the Dirt" is the brainchild of long-time movie stuntman and dirt bike fanatic, Kenny Alexander. This year will be the event's 10th anniversary.

Both Saturday and Sunday are chock full of racing action, offering something for everyone while Friday evening is the Troy Lee Designs Happy Hour Practice Session that will benefit the Steve McQueen Memorial Fund for Boys Republic.

Most years have seen more motocross superstar names in attendance than you can shake a spoke wrench at, and this year should be no different. It's not unusual to see Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward, Micky Dymond, Ricky Johnson, J.N. Roberts and Eric Kehoe to name a few, but many more have shown up to have a good time and do some racin'.

In 2005 Motorcycle.com's Pete Brissette attend the event held at I-5 MX. "The weather was pretty bad. The temps were almost freezing as the cold blustery winds whipped, but plenty of people came out anyway. When I arrived I spotted Mike 'Mouse' McCoy of "Dust to Glory" fame wandering the pits. He was approachable and very friendly. That seemed to be a hallmark of the event, the fact that so many notables from the film industry and motocross world were around, simply being dirt bikers just like the guy or gal of no fame who came to race and watch."

Returning to its roots at LACR, the event will have a unique Grand Prix course that will include asphalt, a huge pit to drop into and fly out of, and a motocross track that will be fun for racers and spectators alike.

A Day in the Dirt is presented by Troy Lee Designs and Elrod Racing and hosted by the Hollywood Stunt and Film Community. Race entries are now being accepted and can be downloaded at adayinthedirt.com.
