2012 KTM 690 Duke Spied

Prototype spotted fueling up outside KTM HQ

An Austrian KTM rider has snapped a photograph of a prototype for a new 690 Duke.

Revealed by MCN, the spy shot (and a short cell phone-shot video) was taken at a gas station in Mattighofen, Austria, near KTM headquarters.

A lot can still change before KTM brings the 690 Duke to market, but the prototype does show some changes from the current production model. The exhaust has been moved to the side instead of the current version’s underslung set-up. The front fender and the panels alongside the tank appear to be rounder than KTM’s usual more angular aesthetic, and the headlight unit is flatter and does not protrude as far out in front as the current headlight.

The spy shots reveal nothing about the Duke’s motor but KTM is expected to update the engine from the current model’s 654cc fuel-injected thumper which claims 64hp and 49 ft-lb.
