2011 BMW R1200R Unveiled

Updated DOHC engine and two design versions
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Oct. 29, 2010
BMW unveiled an updated R1200R naked roadster ahead of its official presentation at the 2010 EICMA show in Milan, Italy.

The 2011 BMW R1200R receives an updated boxer engine developed from the HP2 sport. The new 1170cc DOHC engine was added last year to the R1200GS and R1200RT, so its addition to the R1200R comes as no surprise. The updated engine has a larger rev limit than the previous SOHC engine (8500rpm compared to 8000rpm), with BMW claiming 110hp at 6000rpm and 87.8 ft-lb. at 7750rpm.

BMW waited a year before giving the R1200R the same DOHC engine update as the R1200RT, R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure.

The engine isnt the only update the R1200R received however. BMW is offering it in two new designs, the standard R1200R and the R1200R Classic. The Classic version swaps out the cast alloy wheels for wire spoked wheels and adds chrome accents and pinstriping.

BMW will offer two different versions, the basic R1200R above and the R1200R Classic with chrome elements and wire-spoked wheels.

The R1200R will be presented alongside the also-announced new G650GS in BMWs presentation at the 2010 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. Until then take a look at our 2011 BMW R1200R gallery.
