2011 BMW G650GS Announced

Entry-level GS unveiled ahead of EICMA

BMW announced a new member to its GS family ahead of the 2010 EICMA show.

The 2011 BMW G650GS is based on the F650GS platform and becomes the entry-level member of the GS line of adventure bikes.

The G650GS is powered by a 652cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts. According to BMW, the engine delivers 48hp at 6500rpm and 44 ft-lb. at 5000rpm (with a reduced-power version available in some markets to comply with local regulations).

The new G650GS will be the entry-level member of BMW's GS line of adventure bikes.

The chassis is similar to that of the F650GS with a steel double cradle frame, off-road tuned suspension and single-brake discs. ABS is available as an option, and it can be turned off for off-road riding.

Stylistically, the G650GS gets a new look featuring BMWs tendency for asymmetrical headlights.

BMW is also offering the G650GS in three different seat heights, the standard 30.7 inches, a low-slung 29.5 inches and a higher 32.3 inches.

The G650GS provides another example of BMW's asymmetric headlight designs.

The G650GS will join the also announced R1200R in BMWs presentation at the 2010 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. Until then take a look at our 2011 BMW G650GS gallery.
