1925 Brough Superior SS100 Up for Auction

Prototype owned and raced by George Brough
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Nov. 25, 2010
An original prototype 1925 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport is up for sale at the Phillips de Pury & Company auction house.

Built by George Brough in 1925, the Brough Superior SS100 prototype will be sold on Dec. 15 in New York City as part of Phillips de Pury & Companys Design Masters auction.

Like all standard 1925 Brough Superior SS100s, the prototype uses a twin-cam KTOR JA Prestwich V-Twin. Only 69 models were produced in 1925, and all were capable of reaching a speed of 100mph over a quarter mile, thus lending the bike its model number (Super Sports 100).

The 1925 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport prototype is valued at $600,000-700,000.

Personally owned by Brough himself, the Alpine Grand Sport prototype was entered in the 1925 Austrian Alpine Trial. Brough and Chief Engineer Harold Karslake created the prototype by modifying an SS100 to meet the added challenges of the eight-day race which included distance runs, hill climbs and speed sections. The historic motorcycle has an estimated value of $600,000-700,000.
