Honda Teases New Africa Twin Ahead Of EICMA
The "True Adventure" 2018 Honda Africa Twin
Honda released a single dimly-lit image teasing a new Africa Twin model to be revealed Nov. 6 at the 2017 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. The teaser affirms what we previously reported, that a new, more off-road capable Africa Twin is on the way.
The teaser image, which we’ve brightened in Photoshop, clearly shows the Africa Twin’s familiar face, but with the addition of a protective bar and a tall windshield, while beneath the fender, we can see a knobbier front tire than the current Africa Twin’s stock rubber. Both the bar (which also serves as a mounting point for auxiliary lighting) and the taller screen are already offered as accessories while anyone who wants to take their Africa Twin for serious off-road riding (like we did for our shootout against the KTM 1090 Adventure R) would want some more capable tires on their own.
The big change, based on design patent filings we previously uncovered, will be a larger fuel tank, not unlike BMW adds for the R1200GS Adventure. We also uncovered filings for new tail side panels, which may suggest changes to the seat, subframe or perhaps, luggage.
We can’t make out the left handlebar controls in the teaser image, but Honda will likely continue to offer dual clutch transmission as an option.
As for a name, we wouldn’t be surprised if Honda decides to call the new model the “Africa Twin Adventure” or maybe even “Africa Twin True Adventure.” We’ll find out soon enough, as Honda will reveal the new Africa Twin, along with a few other new 2018 products, in less than a week’s time at EICMA.
