2019 Triumph Street Scrambler Debuts at Intermot

For a couple months now, Triumph has been teasing a new 1200cc Scrambler model, so it was a bit of a surprise when the British company announced an update to the 900cc Street Scrambler and Street Twin as well.

Triumph made true on its promise, revealing the 2019 Street Scrambler and Street Twin, with a number of improvements including an 18% increase in peak horsepower. Most of the updates also apply to the Street Twin which we’ve discussed separately, but if you prefer a bit more off-road capability, here’s what you need to know about the 2019 Triumph Street Scrambler.

Triumph updated the High Torque version of the 900cc parallel-Twin Bonneville engine with a lighter crankshaft, a magnesium cam cover, and a new lighter clutch and mass optimized clutch cover. The ride-by-wire throttle control system offers two selectable engine modes, Road and Rain, with separate throttle maps and traction control settings. ABS is also switchable for light off-road use.

As with the 2019 Street Twin, the Street Scrambler receives a four-piston Brembo brake caliper. Triumph also added a higher-spec cartridge front fork, with the tubes spaced further apart than the previous model. This required modifications to the front fender, top yoke and headlight brackets as well. Other updates include new number-board side panel graphics with the new logo, upgraded instruments with metallic details and a new seat.

For some light off-road duty, the Street Scrambler comes with dual-purpose Metzeler Tourance tires. Wide handlebars and forward set pegs with “bear trap” grips, a bash plate and a 19-inch wire-spoke front wheel also help when you want to take the Street Scrambler off the paved roads.

What remains to be seen is how the Street Scrambler compares to the new Scrambler 1200 that will be released in a couple of weeks. Triumph has been making some bold claims about the larger bike’s off-road abilities, but some riders might prefer a smaller, lighter model like the Street Scrambler.

For 2019, the Triumph Street Scrambler will be offered in three colors: Fusion White, Cranberry Red or Khaki Green and Matt Aluminum. Triumph also offers a number of accessories as well as an Urban Tracker kit (pictured below) which includes a 6.6-gallon pannier, Vance &* Hines slip-on silencer, CNC machined black oil filler cap, black handlebar brace, number board kit, ribbed bench seat, black dresser bar kit, headlight grille and bezel, high front fender and sump guard kit.

Uhmmmm can I have the smaller scrambler back? Why is everyone always trying to make liter (or bigger) bikes to run on the dirt?
