As we previously reported, BMW has expanded its R1250 boxer lineup to include the R1250R, R1250RS and R1250GS Adventure to go along with the previously-announced R1250GS and R1250RT.

All five R1250 models share the same 1254cc Boxer engine with BMW’s ShiftCam variable valve timing system. At low revs, the system employs a partial load cam for a reduced lift to the intake valves for improved fuel consumption. Larger full-load cams activate at higher engine speeds for maximum valve lift for optimal performance.

BMW claims a peak output of 136 hp at 7750 rpm and 105.5 lb-ft. at 6250 rpm from the new engine, an increase from the previous 1170cc engine’s claimed 125 hp at 6750 rpm and 92 lb-ft. at 6500 rpm. Additional benefits include improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.

ABS, traction control and hill start control come as standard for all five models, as do two selectable ride modes, Rain and Road. Additional modes are available as an option.

The R1250R uses a single round halogen headlamp while the R1250RS and the GS Adventure now use LED headlights, with an optional LED daytime running light available where legally allowed.

Also new is the “next generation” of BMW’s Dynamic electronic Suspension Adjustment, offering preset Rain, road and Dynamic settings (plus Enduro and Enduro Pro for the GS Adventure).
