In August, we revealed spy photos of the new Suzuki GSX-S1000 riding around in what appeared to be a brochure shoot. From those spy shots, we gathered the latest entry in the naked streetfighter wars checks many of the boxes required for the category: minimal bodywork, handlebars instead of clip-ons, upright seating position, and what appears to be the GSX-R1000 engine from circa 2005-2008. The GSX-S1000 has now officially been unveiled at Intermot, and we can say the engine is, in fact, a refreshed K5 Gixxer power plant.
Tuned for the street, the engine has new lightweight pistons and revised cam profiles, with Suzuki promising power characteristics suited to city streets. Suzuki developed a new engine control module controling the fuel atomized by the 10-hole injectors.
To compete against the likes of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R and BMW S1000R, the GSX-S1000 is equipped with a three-mode traction control system. Mode 1 offers the least intervention for sportier riding. Mode 2 provides a balanced amount of traction control for most street usage while Mode 3 provides maximum intervention for wet riding conditions.
Suzuki designed a new frame for the GSX-S1000 promising high rigidity while weighing less than the GSX-R1000’s frame. The rear wheel is attached to an aluminum alloy swingarm inherited from the GSX-R1000.
The suspension system comprises of a fully-adjustable 43mm KYB upside-down fork and link-type rear shock. Brembo supplies the radial-mount four-piston front brake calipers. The GSX-S1000 is also available with ABS.
Other features include an LCD display, LED turn signals and taillight, Renthal fatbar and a 4.5-gallon fuel tank. The 2015 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is available in three color options: Metallic Triton Blue, Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Daring Red, and Metallic Mat Fibroin Gray.
