Remember when a 1-by-3-pixel element represented Joe Namath’s football career?

Or every win by Mario Andretti? If you do, you’ll remember your imagination having to create its own colorful landscapes and costumes. Each winning moment represented by a color field on a television screen - not too exciting when you think back. Now-a-days, our imaginations don’t have to work so hard, instead they can bloom team racers and track stars with ease. Video games of the past 10 years have more than helped us become the racers we want to emulate, they’ve also made the process fun.

"Now we can be the star we’ve always wanted to be with iconic automobiles, motorcycles and millions of adoring fans!"

Bizarre Creations in association with Microsoft Game Studios brings us something new for the Xbox 360 game system - the latest version of the Project Gotham Racing [PGR] series hits the shelves in September. Now we can be the star we’ve always wanted to be with iconic automobiles, motorcycles and millions of adoring fans!

Be All You Can Be

Blurring the line between a simulation game and an arcade game, the experience is akin to riding sequences you see in television and movies. You know a rider can’t really ride like that, or on a surface like that, never mind racing and surviving a road course like that without a deadly crash, but you believe it and it’s fun. Add some light vehicle damage, swapping paint and, yes, the ability to loop it, and you’re hooked.

Thanks to a dynamic and optionally web-based weather system, revamped career mode, revised Kudos system, new tracks and locations as well as Hollywood-believable game physics, PGR4 is a game you can pick up and immediately play. Compared to the more true-to-life gaming physics of Tourist Trophy, PGR4 won’t throw you in to the wall for riding without a gaming license. PGR is meant to be fun, look great and be mastered… all while sharing the fun with your friends and adoring fans like your momma and KPaul.

In this game, it’s legal to drive on both sides of the road in Macau.

"...PGR4 is a game you can pick up and immediately play."

When you learn the ropes, you get rewarded for being a hooligan! The Fonz will be the first to admit he can’t wheelie a real street bike, but I was doing standup wheelies 5 minutes into my first session on the incredibly accurate and detailed Shanghai track. Shanghai is just one of the game’s detail-accurate 10 road courses. Game designers worked with hours of video and thousands of photographs to accurately Is that you in that car Sean? recreate each map’s location. And although this is the first time for motorcycles in the game’s history, there are 30 iconic motorcycles to choose from including the MTT Turbine Superbike, a Blackbird CBR1100XX, the MV Agusta F4 Senna, the Kawasaki ZX-14R, BMW F800 and more. See the list below.

For those familiar with PGR3, you’ll find four major additions to this release: improved single player mode, more excitement for you MOfos with the addition of motorcycles for the first time in an automobile game, a new and exciting social network and Mother Nature - full immersion weather. Think beading raindrops on
your windscreen with the reflection of your surroundings!

PGR4 also doubles the track maps, adding five more maps to the five that were in PGR3. Returning for PGR4 are Tokyo, New York, the Nürburgring, London and Las Vegas. PGR4 will feature five more cities and tracks that are entirely new to the franchise; Shanghai, St. Petersburg, Quebec City, Macau and the Michelin Test Track. Thirty motorcycles are part of the gaming experience, as well as 130 equally exotic cars like the 1957 Maserati 250F, 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, 1978 Lamborghini Countach LP400, Saleen S7 Twin Turbo and the fastest street-legal car in the world, the Koenigsegg CCX. Pitting the Buell XB12 against a Peugeot contest car, the Flux, should prove interesting in the streets on Macau!

The new dynamic weather system in PGR 4 keeps the races exciting while creating a visual tour-de-force.

One of the coolest features of the new version to this wanna-be superstar is the social network of Xbox LIVE (global notoriety and team-oriented gameplay requires a Gold account, by the way). Imagine railing along the streets of St. Petersburg – cranking along to exclusive Prodigy tracks. You stop along the start/finish line to do a little showboating to earn special bike-specific Kudos and play to the crowd. Begin with a stoppie, drop the rear wheel directly into a burn-out, spin the ol’ Blackbird around a few times to carve up a figure eight on the pavement, then wick it up into a stand up wheelie… all possible in the game’s regular play. The benefits to that are not only the kudos from the race officials, but also the fans along the track.

The accompanying images seen here were saved and shared thanks to the game’s Photo Mode that captures action stills and sequences for playback in the Xbox Live on-demand forums and photo galleries. Special features for still images include color correction, motion blurs and camera exposure controls I wish I had on my Canon! Check for your images and video captures and part of the Xbox Live and PGR4Nations website.

Overall, fun stuff! Check it out!
