apparently the all new radial brakes weren't worth mentioning? drop the ridiculous 'jim' accent...honestly

wow, you guys can ride..

and what a bike.. besides the brutal power, it looks so much better that the old GSX-R 1000.

hey, and thanks for the good sound on the video..

Nice legs, shame about the face.

Excellent report JB! As usual, this was worth the $12 alone to read 2 months ahead of the paper mags. I can hear the content whiners shriveling like grapefruits in the microwave.

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Good article. And Jim, I don't mind the accent. Whatever floats your boat.

Now, I must admit, after seeing only the blue/white/black version shown here I thought this years bike trully was a hideous machine. But after seeing the silver one, I'm in love in a way that I've never been with a Suzuki before.

Didn't they have any silver ones at the launch? I didn't notice any in your pictures. :(

BTW. You bunch of rat bastards made me pay again. Sonofbiatches!

Sounds like the beast is even better now with a modest steroid injection. Suzuki can sure build sportbikes. I'm proud of them. I can only imagine the capabilities of the bike that eventually knocks this Gixxer off the top step.

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Nice story Johnny. Nice pics and movies too. too bad all the non-subscribers can't see what they are missing. Looks like a brutal bike. Since my wimpy ZX9 scares the hell out of me plenty, can't see a reason for getting this one unless I need to change my shorts more often. The GSXR would probably be a bit tight for me anyway. I'm trying to think of excuses not to want one but it's not working well.

Do you think the rear can be modified to hold a brain tank?

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

This thing is ugly. What's wrong with a solid color? Could you imagine a car with all of those goofy graphics? It's too bad we can't get a Japanese engineered, Italian designed hybrid. What I wouldn't give for a Ducati 999 or, even better, an MV Augusta F4 that moves like this GSX-R 1000 and cost $11K. But considering I'll never be able to go much quicker than Lance Armstong can probably go on his bicycle I should quit being so picky about wanting to look good and go quick at the same time and plunk down the $20K for a bike that looks good. If I only had $20K and permission.

I wonder when Suzuki will have warp drive... :) These new bikes scare me (life changes when you have a new baby in the house). I already cancel my order for the gixxer and think I'll order a VFR or look for a deal on a R1 or 954.

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

My obsolete V-twin Ducati scares the hell out of me. You know the used market for a two-year old GSXR1000 hit the floor. Scoop one up and put it alongside your ZX-9 and you can call it an inline 8!

Nice to see Suzuki has finally decided that their top supersport shouldn't look identical to the 600.

Fun article. Nice pics. Nobody does it as well.

Awesome. I have had mine on order since mid January. I so can't wait!

I was one of those "content whiners" and I stand by my original remarks. For about a month there (right around my subscription expiration, as it turned out), all I had to look at was "Whirry: Not an Ounce of Fatty". And that was the most exciting thing in months.

MO has definitely responded to the criticism (as was claimed would happen) and I'm glad to see it.

Regards,

Ross

You're kinda going a little to Uncle Remus now. Throttle back the accent just a little.

You could probably scare yourself on the 3 bikes mentioned too! I know I could.

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Awesome bike. I don't care for the looks tho, looks similar to the Hayabusa, also ugly IMHO.

The 2002 was a nicer looking machine.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

I say go for it.

Tire burning forth gear power wheelies, 160 somthing down the straits, is that all? Gee I sure hope that they've left a place to attach the nitrous bottle. VWW

I'm not usually a Suzuki kind of guy...

but it looks like the have really over shot the mark. The other companies have chosen to release '02 bikes again for '03, while the class leader raises the bar again.

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Just like you, after looking at the press release photos I loved the silver and hated the blue/black. Then, I saw the two at a motorcycle show and was disappointed that the silver actually looks pretty dull. I like the blue/black better. I have a blue 01 GSXR-1000 and I'm happy to see the white rims gone - what a pain to keep clean!

Anyone know if there's a turbo kit available for this model yet?

KPaulCook 02-21-2003 09:41 AM

Great Review. Love the video and pictures So long twins.

This bike will make the RC51 and Duc 999 a thing of the past in AMA superbike. Love the writing thanks. Glad I renewed by subscription!

Re: Great Review. Love the video and pictures So long twins.

It'll be interesting to see if this turns out to be true - based on what I've read of last season's British Superbike races, that wasn't the case. I'm sure the '03 model's improved, but I wouldn't count the v-twins out just yet. But then again, I ride an Aprilia, so I'm certainly biased.

Anybody out there started a pool as to when JohnnyB will get thrown off this Gixer?

(Great article, by the way)

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Nice article, the thing looks and sounds like a Rocketship! But alas I'm too old (and fat) to want to "assume the position" for long and too po' to (seriously) entertain thoughts of multi specialty bike ownership. That's OK though, I's jus a ridin' an havin' a good ol' time on my UJM, an' wishin' fo' thems ta be amakin' a good ol' UAM. PS sounds more like an (Uncle) Tom or Cracker (re Cool hand Luke) than a Jim to me IMHO

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Now that is the best idea you have had yet Buz :) Nothing like a screaming inline 4 to take the blues away.

Cool bike, it's that Bandit exhaust can that makes it so fast.

captainwhoopass 02-21-2003 12:54 PM

Re: I'm not usually a Suzuki kind of guy...

I guess it depends on your definition of "class leader". If you just mean performance, then the Gixxer is the one. If you mean sales numbers, then from what I've heard from dealers, it's the R1.

"it looks so much better that the old GSX-R 1000. "

To each his own, but to me, this thing is fugly.

ShamanWS6 02-21-2003 01:06 PM

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

Bet you wouldn't say that after seeing it in person. It's cool in person.

Buzglyd 02-21-2003 02:13 PM

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

I'm practicing riding my Harley and Ducati at the same time so I can have a V-4.

I'd love to have a screaming inline four in my garage also but I think two bikes is enough for now. A 600 with a 15,000 rpm redline sounds fun however I need to finish remodeling my house first and the H-D just took a huge chunk out of that budget.

Re: 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Feedback

I just hope when the liter bike compro comes around the Gixxer won't lose points for being too powerful which was the case a few compros ago.

KPaulCook 02-21-2003 05:03 PM

Check out the Suzuki web site for a nice silver one

I agree it is kind of ugly in the Suzuki racing trim but the solid silver one is nice.

Click here to see pretty silver one below the blue and white one

Burns has impressed me

JB - Is that Sam Fleming you're hounding in the long video? If so, you have really stepped up the riding on new bike intros, because my understanding is that he is fast as hell!

Maybe it's those snazzy new MO Spyke leathers...

Regardless, way to go on the article, video and more impressively - the riding!

Isnt' it a bummer when no one snaps at your flame bait anymore? :-)
