Who Won the MO Arai XD4 Helmet Giveaway Anyway?

You know, the one where you guessed which bike would win MO's Epic Nine-Bike Adventure Shootout?

This guy, Dave Gasser of Canton, Ohio, did! That name by itself should’ve been enough to win the contest, but Dave also correctly guessed that the MO crew would pick the BMW S1000XR as overall winner of our epic going-postal up the-coastal adventure, and earned himself a new Arai XD4 helmet. How’d he do it?

“I had a feeling that the BMW would win the shootout because it is based on such a solid platform – the S1000,” says Dave. “It has proven itself to be a great supersport and sport standard, so I had a feeling that it would shine in this Adventure/Tourer segment as well.”

Smart man, and must’ve read my First Ride Review of the S1000XR, in which I suggested that the XR might not be just my new favorite BMW, but possibly my favorite new motorcycle. Okay, well, maybe it’s not, but it’s close. I picked the Ducati Multistrada.

Mr. Gasser currently rides a 2011 Kawasaki Z1000 and a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R600, on which he recently did a track day at Mid-Ohio, and says he’s had Motorcycle.com bookmarked on his browser for as long as he can remember.

“Typically,” says Dave, “the motorcycles are pretty deep in their hibernation this time of year in this part of the country – but we have been blessed with unusually mild weather and temperatures, so I was able to get out on a ride last week. Unfortunately, this was just before my new Arai helmet arrived, so I have not had a chance to try it out yet, except at my work station. So far I have to say it’s very quiet, and also extremely awesome. Thank you MO!”

Dave’s a Clinical Education Specialist for Philips Healthcare, and “married to a wonderful lady named Michelle, who just kicked breast cancer’s ass!! and is now doing very well.” Way to go Michelle! No children are reported: “That’s how I get to have two motorcycles,” says Dave, who runs two head of cats.

Congrats and thanks for playing, Dave. Wear that new Arai in health!
