A Moto2 race in this weekend’s Spain’s CEV championship round was red-flagged after a spectacular explosion. Several riders crashed in the sudden fireball but miraculously none were seriously injured.

The incident happened on the second Moto2 race of the Motorland Aragon round after racer Xavi Cardelus lost control and crashed. The fuel tank separated from his bike, flying up in the air before landing on the track. Another rider then struck the tank, causing the explosion.

UPDATE: Here’s the series’ official video of the complete Aragon round on YouTube (which unfortunately cannot be embedded into this post.) The explosion occurs just before the three-hour mark of the video.

Michael Aquino, brother of the late Tommy Aquino, was one of the riders who crashed out after the explosion. He was unhurt but was unable to join the restarted race.
