If I were a member of the one percent, I would buy...

Since today is basically the last business day before Christmas, I decided to see what moto-present I could give myself for a starting price of $100,000. In this fantasy, I have no limit to the amount I could spend on my internally-combusted art object. I deserve to be pampered after almost completing another year slaving away in the bowels of the MO Towers.

When faced with such an unrealistic task, I naturally turned to the famed Bonhams auction house, a privately owned auction house known throughout the world as the place where one percenters go to buy and sell their exotica – be it jewelry, fine art, or motorcycles. Founded in 1793, Bonhams has branches throughout the world. The Las Vegas branch hosts an annual motorcycle auction that attracts the best of the best.

Here’s what I found I could have bought for $100,000 or more at last January’s Bonhams auction. I guess I better start counting my pennies because 2017 is just around the corner.

Like most of the best happenings in his life, Evans stumbled into his motojournalism career. While on his way to a planned life in academia, he applied for a job at a motorcycle magazine, thinking he’d get the opportunity to write some freelance articles. Instead, he was offered a full-time job in which he discovered he could actually get paid to ride other people’s motorcycles – and he’s never looked back. Over the 25 years he’s been in the motorcycle industry, Evans has written two books, 101 Sportbike Performance Projects and How to Modify Your Metric Cruiser, and has ridden just about every production motorcycle manufactured. Evans has a deep love of motorcycles and believes they are a force for good in the world.
