Checking Out Some Hot Models

Motorcycle.com took in a fashion show presenting Ducati’s latest apparel, and we got a couple of models’ numbers.

848, 1098, 696 and 16RR to be exact.

RevCycles in downtown Toronto was one of the dealerships in North America to debut Ducati’s 2008 fashion line, but all eyes were on the new motorcycles on display.

First up was a Ducati 848 hand-assembled by Jeff Bloor and Chris McDermott of RevCycles. The ‘REV848’ is designed for the track day enthusiast with race-quality bolt-ons and aftermarket parts ready to Moto ST specifications.

RevCycles added a full Termignoni exhaust system to improve power output while reducing weight, and replaced the Showa front and rear suspension with Öhlins shock absorbers. They’ve also added a DucatiPerformance racing faring, race seat and radiator hoses.

The engine remains stock as, with the exhaust modifications, an 848 will already push close to Moto ST's horsepower limit. Altogether, the REV848 is a trackday enthusiast's middleweight Duc dream bike.

The paint job for the display model was done by Extreme Measures of London Ont., but the bike will come unpainted. RevCycle will also throw in a doggie bag with all the original street-legal parts for the when you want to ride this baby home from the track.

The REV848 comes in at CAN$27,995, about $3,000 less than the full retail price for all the parts on their own.

'With nearly 200 grand in Ducati engineering and craftsmanship sharing the runway, we certainly came away impressed by the display put on by RevCycle.'

Next on the runway was a beautiful black 1098S equipped with custom fuel tanks that can carry nearly 16 gallons of gas. This bike, being shown in North America for the first time, will be ridden by 1995 Iron Butt Rally winner Gary Eagan in this year’s Cannonball Run. In 2004, Eagen broke the North-South transcontinental record, traveling from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Key West Fla. in four days and five hours on a Ducati Multistrada.

Sitting beside the 1098S was its cousin, the US$39,995 Ducati 1098R, a World Superbike championship homologation of the bike Troy Bayliss rode to a pair of victories this past weekend in the Netherlands.

Next on the runway was a naked model. Of course, we’re referring to the new Ducati Monster 696. Those of us in attendance were lucky enough to be among the first to see a production model 696 in North America, in one of the rare instances that a bike appeared north of the border before appearing in the US. This Monster won’t premiere in the US until May 16.

Last, but definitely not least, with its CAN$85,000 price tag, came a Desmosedici 16RR. One of only 1,500 produced, this MotoGP replica bike was purchased by one lucky Canuck doctor who proudly revved the engine for the cheering crowd.

With nearly 200 grand in Ducati engineering and craftsmanship sharing the runway, we certainly came away impressed by the display put on by RevCycle.

Oh, right, there was also a runway show featuring some of Ducati’s latest fashions.
