You were probably expecting another red, white and blue motorcycle for the top spot on this list. We’re throwing a curveball here and instead selected a real American patriot clad in military green: the diesel-powered Hayes-DT M1030M1.

Based on a Kawasaki KLR650, the M1030M1 is retrofitted to run on diesel or JP-8 jet fuel, the same fuel used to power tanks.

In 2005, the United States Marine Corps adopted the M1030M1, taking advantage of its agility, ability to handle difficult terrain, excellent fuel economy and the versatility of being able to use different kinds of fuel.

Where did you happen to find that picture of the EBR 1190RS? The reason I ask is that it matches a photo I took of it at the races at Road America in June of 2012 and posted on http://www.badweatherbikers.com. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/683137.jpg Not irritated, just thought it was cool seeing something I shot being being spread to the masses.

Got it off a site written in what looked like German. But if you took the picture, I’ll gladly give you credit for it. It’s a great shot.

German? That could potentially be explained by the fact that one of my closest friends (and fellow Buell owner) from Germany had come over for the EBR/Buell Homecoming in 2012 – which the races at Road America are a part of the festivities. I know he and I have shared pics in the past, so perhaps he posted it on the X-BORG forum – essentially the German equivalent of http://www.badweatherbikers.com. There’s no doubt in my mind that I took the original picture, however. Amazing that an aging digital camera – going on 9 years of ownership – can still produce a striking image.
