5. Mad Max  – 1979

Who knew the futuristic 1979 hit from down under would become modern Southern California minus the open spaces? You really can’t pick out one particular chase scene, because practically the whole hour and 47 minutes is one big chase, as the previously unknown Mel Gibson seeks revenge upon the mobile band of nasty moto-miscreants who destroyed his happy home – mostly in his supercharged Ford XB Falcon GT Australian police car, but often on and in pursuit of various period Z1000 Kawasakis and other things, usually with cinematographer David Eggsby and a big old camera on the pillion. They really don’t make ’em like this anymore. The movie was so successful they were able to later hire Tina Turner to star in and sing the theme for Beyond the Thunderdome.

  • Not only was I born, but I was already riding motorcycles by 1973. And that diner serves a most excellent burrito.

I saw Thunderball at a later than original theatrical release Bond festival In my hometown in the late sixties. I still remember that chase scene. Ms. Paluzzi definately had it going on then. No wonder I like BSAs.

There is a 70’s Australian movie called “Stone” about a cop infiltrating a bikie gang, to try and find a killer. All British and Japanese bikes. It’s a classic and great to watch just to see the bikes and listen to the 70’s Aussie slang.

The opening scene from Raw Deal has some good, real riding,
though you have to suspend disbelief to think that the jeep would keep up.

looks like a great film Opposite of… Schwarzenegger is ahh, well it’s hard to believe he was Governor of California or is it?

      • Old MOron

Sonny Bono, Fred Grandy, Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger, I’m sure there are other entertainers who crossed over to politics. It won’t be long before the Kardashians take over the White House.

No mention of the great riding of the trials motorcycle in the Jason Bourne movie?

Knight and Day had Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz escaping on a Ducati Hypermotard. Way better than half the selections here. Vanilla Ice? Really? Bullshit!

    • Tinwoods

Except, as I recall it, it was not a Hypermotard; it was something else, something smaller, dressed up to look like a Hypermotard. But a funny thing about Cruise and motorcycles. Back in the late-80s, when I was working on the Paramount lot, he ripped through the main parking lot (and the B-tank lot), popping wheelies back and forth. After that, Paramount banned motorcycles from the lot, relegating us underling daily rider employees to the faraway fringe parking structures. Thanks, Tom!

Is this list about the ten worst motorcycle chase scenes? What about Biker Boyz and Torque or almost every Tom Cruise movie?
