2016 FJR1300ES
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 08, 2020This review applies to all FJR 2016 and later. This is because they all have the same upgrades over previous years. Everyone says the sixth gear isn't needed over the gen 2/1 models, but I disagree strongly. It's nice to keep the rpms lower at higher speeds for gas economy and vibration. This is ... what the sixth gear does. Cruising at 120-150 kmh it's a smooth ride to say the least! Slipper clutch, fly by wire clutch and brake are fantastic and reliable. Easy pull clutch, and the ABS linked brakes are so incredible to have. You'll never do a front wheel flip, as the linked brakes apply a percentage of power to the rear brake as well when just using the front brake, the same applies to just using the rear brake! Simply great. Cruise control is flawless and consistent, if you ever had or have a bike with a throttle lock, the biggest issue is riding in hilly area, as your speed decelerates going up hills, even minor slopes and can overspeed going down! Electronic cruise eliminates this completely! Fuel economy depending of how hard and fast you ride will vary, but cruising highways at a reasonable speed you should get between 40-48 mpg easily. 145 bhp (0-60mph in under 3 seconds) gives you all the snap you'll ever want and with a top end speed of 270 kph ( IDK where you'd open it up to achieve that speed?) It's plenty powerful. Easy DIY maintenance saves you money to dealers. I used to spend $180 on oil changes at dealers, now it's just the cost of oil and filter. I've owned other motorcycles, nothing compares to the FJR for pure joy and fun. Handling is excellent, seat height gives you clear views of traffic, and you're easily seen but other motorists as well! There's lots of upgrade products you can add, but I suggest crash bars as a must, they'll protect you fairings at a minimum and motor etc. In a real lay down situation. Much cheaper to replace crash guards over new fairings and motor! Finally, before you buy, test ride this beast and see for yourself the incredible engineering that has gone into, in my opinion the very best motorcycle ever made!
