2009 Yamaha XT250

What a fun little bike! This bike replaced a Suzuki DR650 and at first I was a little concerned that I may have made a mistake, but I do not think that anymore. Yes the 650 excelled on the freeway but the 250 will still maintain legal freeway speeds (even up hills) so unless one does a lot of freewa...y riding the XT250 will do anything the bigger dual sports will do, and when taken off road its light weigh makes it far easier to throw around. I have ridden it on freeways, city streets, and off road in sand, hard pack roads, and rough terrain, and so far I have not been disappointed. Read Full Review

XT 250

I have had my XT 250 for a few months now, and have managed to put close to 150 miles on it in temperatures of around 28 - 40 degrees. What an awesome bike! I travel mostly on gravel so a dual purpose bike is a necessity until I have the confidence needed for a cruiser. I did have to have a lowering... kit made before I could ride it. The specs showed it to be slightly taller than my TTR125LE, and it turned out to be a few inch difference. I'm 5' 2" so the bike had to be brought down to about 30 inches. I have had no problems with it so far. I've driven it on the highway and it still runs smooth at 67 mph. I am inching my way toward 70. I just wish there were more accessories available for it. Yamaha Xt250

Well, I rode a Yamaha XT225 for 10 years until trading it in on an XT250. My riding is in the woods following deer trails, creeks, fields, etc. at speeds of 5-15 mph. Thus, I changed the rear sprocket to 53 teeth, added a skidplate from Ricochet, and a pair of Dunlop 606 tires (90% off road, 10% o...n). Though this bike is different from my XT225 with only 5 speeds and 30 lbs. heavier..the geometry of it makes it feel like a lighter bike. My few changes allows me to go anywhere in the woods with confidence.
It is more powerful than the Honda 230 and smaller physically than the Kawasaki 250. I am 5'8". Read Full Review

Great bike, but beware

We have had this bike about a month now. Peppy little bike, that is fun to ride, light weight makes it easy to handle. Bad part is the Cheng Shin tires. They make the bike have a terrible wobble... sadly, at our expense we had to replace these tires. In looking around, MANY others have had the sa...me problem.
